The tightened ISPS regulations required Nobel to implement stricter security measures on the quay for seagoing vessels. The mandate: close off the area and register and control crew and visitors. However, Nobel’s quay is well known as a highly central and accessible quay – and that had to remain so.

That is why advanced fencing has been installed on Nobel’s quay to secure the three terminals individually, and why Ship2Port, part of Royal Dirkzwager, together with Nobel, developed Europe’s first autonomous ISPS access system.

When a seagoing vessel docks at Nobel’s quay, only that part of the quay is automatically closed, while the rest of the quay and site remain accessible – including for inland shipping.

The Ship2Port app ensures a simple and fully autonomous registration process to request, enter, and leave the terminals during the time the vessel is present.

Where others saw ISPS as a burden, Nobel saw an opportunity.

And this is only the beginning. Nobel views this system as a glimpse of the future: terminals that are safe, smart, and welcoming. Technology that reduces administrative burdens while enhancing safety.

Or, as Nobel itself says: “The best course towards the future.”
