Stichting Meander beheert verspreid door Nederland internaten en gezinshuizen voor kinderen van ouders met een trekkend bestaan (binnenvaartschippers, kermisexploitanten en circusartiesten). Ruim honderd jaar geleden is het eerste internaat geopend. De kinderen, in de leeftijd van 5 - 18 jaar, wonen bij Meander en gaan naar een reguliere school in de buurt. Elk internaat en gezinshuis heeft zijn eigen karakter. Medewerkers en ouders geven er gezamenlijk invulling aan de opvoeding van de kinderen. Zo biedt ieder internaat elk kind de mogelijkheid om gezond groot te worden en zich te ontwikkelen.
