About us
Kalkman is a family business and was founded by great-grandfather Kalkman in 1924. The company started life as Kalkman Machinebouw B.V. but started to expand its shipping activities as of the mid-1970s. This involved Kalkman focusing on the development and production of bow thrusters and ballast pumps. As ships increased in size, the need for controlled manoeuvrability also increased. If agility is important to you, then the high quality bow thrusters of Kalkman Scheepstechniek B.V. are exactly what you need. In past years, we have continued to develop new types and models, and have thus acquired a wide range of knowledge. Ballastjets
The ballast jet allows us to expand your sailing area and minimise lost time. The ballast jet is a simple and effective system that enables the intake and discharge of ballast water. We can expand your sailing area and minimise lost time, without any great effort on your part. Kalkman has developed a simple and effective system that makes it possible to take in and discharge ballast water. The Kalkman Ballastjet is characterised by its ability to generate large water volumes at a relatively low capacity, its low in-build space and the absence of pipes. Full performance can also be realised when the ship is sailing. This reduces the time needed to travel routes with limited vertical clearance. Due to the low assembly of the ballast jet, it can be comfortably emptied. To do this without misfiring, the electro motor is regulated using a frequency regulator. The revolutions of the motor can be continuously regulated using a remote control. Closing valves can be fitted on the outside as well as the open side. A closing valve is required. Thrusters
360-degree revolving drives for your specific vessel. Available as L-drive or Z-drive. These thrusters can also be fitted with an integrated rudder, which allows the vessel to retain its course, also when coasting. Stuurwachtalarm
German research shows that a steering alarm can help to significantly improve on-board safety! If you value safety, the Kalkman Steering alarm is essential for your wheelhouse. Two sensors are used to continuously monitor your navigator. The steering alarm will warn you if movement is not detected within a particular period (which you have configured). The alarm will sound in various warning phases. This means other personnel can be notified and potential accidents can be avoided. Properties of Kalkman Steering alarm - 4 time intervals - Dimmer for lighting - Reset button - Interface with PC possible, which means the system need not be built into the dashboard As of mid-2019, it will also be possible to integrate the steering alarm into the Kalkman control panel (touchscreen). With this system we connect all Kalkman products. A small investment can help to prevent major damage!
Bow thrusters
