Craftsmanship in Zwartsluis
Metal Technology Sector Campaign
Geralda Brunsman, Regional Manager for the Eastern District of the Royal Metaalunie, presented a cream cake to René Kruft, Operations Manager, and René Geertman, owner of Scheepswerf Geertman in Zwartsluis. The shipyard earned the cake for its active participation in the sector campaign "Metal Technology Makes Your World." Training is in the DNA. The decision to participate in the sector campaign was a natural one for Scheepswerf Geertman. “We have been a recognized training company for years,” says Kruft. “We know from experience how interesting and versatile this sector is. There are enormous career opportunities, but you have to introduce young people to them in a timely manner.” According to them, it is precisely the combination of technology, craftsmanship, and problem-solving that makes the shipyard attractive to a broad group of technicians. “You don't work on an assembly line here. You are challenged to think for yourself and arrive at the best solution.” The campaign's efforts generated many positive reactions, both internally and externally. “The appreciation for the campaign within the sector – and for our company – speaks volumes,” says Geertman. “For many people, this is also their first introduction to an industry that is relatively unknown. Yet the technical possibilities at a shipyard are actually very appealing.” According to the entrepreneurs, the campaign helps to present a more realistic and attractive image of the work. “The idea of just ‘dirty hands’ is no longer accurate. Of course, you work with your hands, but it is just as much about technique, insight, and precision.” “By investing in youth today, we hope that this challenge will be less significant in the future.” Read the full story on our website.
