⚓ Keeping Vessels Moving – Even Under Time Pressure ⚡

When a vessel is alongside with a critical crane failure, time is not a luxury: it’s a risk.

This week, we were contacted regarding a gantry crane hoist DC motor failure onboard a vessel that was scheduled to depart the Port of Rotterdam within days. The crane was out of service, and without a fast and reliable solution, the vessel would have faced serious delays.

🔧 The challenge

- Failed DC hoist motor
- Vessel alongside with a very limited time window
- Heavy-duty gantry crane application
- No margin for trial-and-error

⏱️ The reality
Only 5 days to act.

After fully dismantling and inspecting the original motor, it became clear that a complete rewind would take several weeks and was therefore not a viable option.

💡 The solution
We were able to supply a Siemens DC motor (295 kW) directly from stock, allowing us to move immediately.
Within the available timeframe, our team:

- Selected an electrically compatible Siemens DC motor from stock
- Carried out the required mechanical adaptations
- Reconditioned and finished the motor for marine service
- Prepared the unit for immediate installation

All with one clear objective: restore crane availability and keep the vessel on schedule.

Instead of remaining alongside for weeks, the vessel was able to proceed with a safe and reliable hoisting installation - avoiding costly delays.
