Fish can now ride the elevator!

As the Netherlands have been more than 25% below sea level for decades, rainwater and groundwater must be continuously pumped out to prevent flooding.

The fish-friendly screw pump by FishFlow Innovations in Medemblik enables migratory fish to travel without injury during pumping. It consists of a long screw that causes the water to be displaced upwards when driven. To ensure that the fish are not injured during this process, FishFlow has developed a worm pump made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic in which the blades become narrower from the middle to the tip and are fully connected to the housing. It ensures that the fish glide gently through the screw conveyor and are not trapped.

Our products are also part of this innovation. The POLY-NORM AR shaft couplings compensate for all types of shaft misalignment and dampen torsional vibrations in the drive system. A REVOLEX KX-D pin coupling is installed between the gearbox and worm shaft. Both coupling types have a compact design, which ensures a long service life and thus prevents pump malfunctions in the long term.

You can find the full article on FishFlow’s development in our KTR Insight Yearbook on pages 12-15. Read it now:
